September 14th and 15th, 2016, the library will be participating in “California Listens: Collecting Digital Stories About Being Californian,” a statewide Digital Storytelling project sponsored by the California State Library, in conjunction with Califa Group, and StoryCenter.
As a part of this project, we will host a two day, 9 am- 5 pm workshop at Betty Rodriguez Regional Library to help 10-12 people create 2-4 minute digital stories about their experiences as Californians. These workshops, led by staff from the Berkeley-based StoryCenter, will guide participants through writing and recording a short narration script, and creating a basic visual treatment for this narration in an easy to use video editor.
The library is recruiting storytellers from our local communities, Fresno County residents who have interesting life stories about being Californian they want to share. We hope to collect a tapestry of stories for use by our library and inclusion in California State Library's collection. We are looking for stories that reflect the full spectrum of life in Fresno and other communities in Fresno County. Long-time residents, newcomers to the area, farmers, veterans, artists, entrepreneurs– we want to hear from anyone and everyone who wants to share their unique story. Because of the diversity of our county, it is anticipated that stories will take many shapes.
